Hello,
In theory, your app would be great. It is supposed to do exactly what I want to do; however, I have not been able to do it. I have an new HTC Evo 4g LTE on the Sprint network. I installed Picasa Downloader from the Google Play Store. I can open my account and see my album covers, but when I do a long press to download, a popup appears which says "Download." Nothing appears to be happening. When I try to access the settings at the bottom of the screen, the black bar upon which the three dots appear, briefly turns blue, but no settings (such as destination for download) appear.
Am I missing something, or is there a bug in the software? Thank you for your efforts. --Mike Carr

Hi,

The app in the Google play store only accidently shares the name with this windows application. It is not my work nor derived from it I think. It is for the phone app programmer to correct specs and meet up with store requirements.

Thank you for your prompt response. I guess you have answered my question. My Android phone does not meet the system requirements. Whoever put this on the Google Play Store did not indicate any system requirements. Apparently some people have this working (maybe on Android tablets?). Therefore, if you are the lead developer of this project, I would encourage you to contact Google and modify the App description to warn about system requirements. Hi,

Unless your phone is running Windows (instead of Android) and .net I find it highly unlikely that you are able to run this picasadownloader application on a phone at all.

Besides that I certainly did not upload this PicasaDownloader to the Google Play Store.

with Ctrl helped, and I crap an option it is necessary to put that it was by default loaded in full permission?

You have to hold the ctrl-key while clicking the download button (or choosing an option from the context menu).

The option is not supported by google (but seems to work fine). There should also be photo's at large resolution available off-course.

Hi wvd_vegt,

I am continuing testing the app and found another issue:

I noticed a 2nd pro of using the highest/original resolution download and that is that camera metadata is preserved.

Unfortunately, latest version is downloading photos in full resolution, but without EXIF data and resulting file size is much smaller than original (2Mb instead of 6Mb). I compared files downloaded with previous version on December 29th and today's photos (still using tha same profile as an example 112385036621246460812)

Any chance of keeping the original image file date (as uploaded to Picasa)
 rather than the date of download?
 
This would help differentiate between any photo revisions.
 
Very low priority.

If you download at original resolution (ctrl-click download) the original date and metadata seems to be reserved.

Hi wvd_vegt,

Just finished testing of the latest version and most of the problems seems to be fixed!

I tried continuing download and it works fine to me - all files skipped in first run seems to be downloaded successfully.

Also, CTRL+List showed all 1202 albums of the user, so I will keep it in mind ;-)

Regarding naming pattern - I see you changed set up window in latest release, it looks nice =) I used following filename mask:

..\{Owner}@picasa\{Album}\{Original Name}

So it was creating folder with UserName, subfolder with AlbumName and put files with original names inside. Unfortunately, now I can't use this pattern, because '\' character is treated as illegal and is replaced by '_'. I hope you could find the way how to avoid this problem, because it is really handy to create such a folder structure =) May be it is possible not to escape '\' character received from INI file?

Known issues:

Please note that the replacement patterns under the setup are tricky to translate automatically. You might have to re-enter them after you translated the pattern items.
If the application is minimized during download it fails to restore. In the task manager right click the application and choose 'Bring To Front'.

Note if upgrading:

Due to the change in translation ("Orginal Name" changed to "Original Name") the naming pattern might fail if it was stored in the ini file (or was translated). If this happens when the filenames all become equal to the pattern itself ({Orginal Name}) and only a single misnamed file will show up after a download. To fix this, either correct the pattern in the setup dialog or delete "Pattern=" line in the ini file located at "%appdata%\PicasaDownloader\PicasaDownloader.ini".
When the Escape key is pressed the download of the current image is finished.

Please make sure the correct DotNet Framework is installed, so do not add issues/messages on Framework problems.
