My development time is a bit limited but I was planning to rework the whole downloading part to use .NET 4.0 task.

I will also look into the naming pattern problem. Although I think it's simply because you ommitted placeholders, the tool is downloading each image and overwriting the previous one. You should have at least:

{Original Name} or {Number}

in the filename pattern for filenames to become unique. In you case every downloaded image get named SDFSDA.

Picasa Downloader seems to work, but does not download the full-resolultion, original image size. I am consistently getting images that are only 500x375 px in size.

Also, ASCII format URL Encoding is being made when creating folder and file names. Spaces in the original Picasa images are created as '%20', etc. can this feature be turned off, and the original filder/file name be used if wanted?

The documentation for ctrl-click (and download in full res) is in the tooltip of the download button (just leave the mouse there for a moment). If i revise the app I will adress this.

The program saves pictures into {WindowsInstallDrive}:\Users\{Username}\My Pictures\PicasaDownloaded. This is not always the default location where user stores their pictures. For example, using Windows 7, I moved all my folders onto another drive, and thus the program saved downloaded images into C:\Users\Rryk\My Pictures\PicasaDownloaded, while I normally store my pictures at D:\Pictures.

This is a minor bug.

This is really minor as anyone can simple move resulting files wherever they want, but this feature feels missing when you first run the app. I don't think that this is too hard - all you need is to place a new input field on the form and read it's value into Form1.DownloadPath.

It would be nice to save picture title from Picasa Web Albums as image metadata. The required title shouldn't be too hard to extract (just read appropriate field in the JObject) and to save (use Bitmap::SetPropertyItem). I could have created a patch for that myself, but as I am no expert in C# development and wasn't able to get the source compiled due to a few missing dependencies required to build it (Swiss, Newtonsoft.Json).

Current the system automatically places each album in the folder with the name that contains album id and it's title in parenthesis. I would prefer to get rid of id and parenthesis, some others would like to have it even more different. Thus some control would be very helpful here.

Hello everyone!

It is very good program, but I found one bug. When download process is start (Ctrl+download button) I can't stop this process. There is only one variant that I found using the kill application button in task manager.

And the other bug. When I enter something wrong like "SDFSDA" in "setup - naming pattern" option picasadownloader can't create any images. I can see only one temporary file in download folder. I think this is the bug.

Hope that this bugs will be fixed in next version.

Download and save these file in '%appdata%\PicasaDownloader'.

Language	Translation
en-US	This translation will be automatically created when starting with a Translation
nl-NL	PicasaDownloader.nl-NL.resource
ru-RU	PicasaDownloader.ru-RU.resource

Notes on translating:

If you create translations, and some items are turning red, there is a problem with the number of placeholders (the numbers between curly brackets) in the translation.
Note the punctuation and use of colons.
Placeholders can be swapped if necessary in your language.
Please note that the replacement patterns under the setup are tricky to translate automatically. You might have to re-enter them after you translated the pattern items.
As I cannot test the majority of the languages I can give no guarantee ;-)

I have previously used 'Picasa Web Album Assistant' which is java-based, but the functionality is very limited. That program will, however, return the original image date (not the folder though).

An update couldn't hurt :)

The documentation is in the tooltip of the download button. So well hidden ;-)

I'm not sure picasa turns the orgiginal filename, but i'll have a look at the stuff it returns.

It's time for an update i guess.

Any chance of keeping the original image file date (as uploaded to Picasa)
rather than the date of download?

This would help differentiate between any photo revisions.

Ctrl click the download button? No, I could not find that function in the documentation.

Presumably, if I am using Picasa Downloader, I am *not* downloading my own photos, so by default, why wouldn't I want the biggest, original resolution photos by default?

I'm not sure what your last question means?

Hi,

Did you try ctrl-click the download button? This should download the images at original resolution. By default google resizes the images to a max of 1600px.

I'll try to implement the unescaping of filenames as soon as possible (did not encounter it myself yet so did not implement it).

What do you mean with original filename/folder (the unescaped version)?
